U.S. Diversity Visa Lottery Oct. 4 to Dec. 3
If you have family or friends who are considering applying for a U.S.
green card, you might want to let them know that the application period
for this year's U.S. Diversity Immigrant Visa Program (DV-2008), also
known as the "visa lottery," will be open from Oct. 4, 2006 through
Dec. 3, 2006.
The program provides a maximum of 55,000 permanent resident visas
annually to natives from certain geographical regions and foreign
states which, according to a formula based on total immigrant
admissions over the most recent five-year period, are identified as
being underrepresented.
The application period for this year's lottery runs from 12 noon EDT on
Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006, through 12 noon EST on Sunday, Dec. 3, 2006.
Applicants are required to fill out the Electronic Diversity Lottery
Form and must supply a digital (electronic) photograph. The State
Department will no longer accept paper entries or mail-in requests.
More information about this year's lottery, along with application
instructions and a link to the electronic form, are available on the
U.S. Department of State's Travel web site.
Individuals selected for "registration" will be notified by mail
between May and July 2007, and will be provided further instructions,
including information on fees connected with immigration to the U.S.
Random selection does not automatically guarantee that a visa will be
issued. (Note that notifications to those selected in the random
lottery are NOT sent by e-mail; any notification about selection that
is received by e-mail is not legitimate. For more information on visa
lottery scams, see the Federal Trade Commission's website) Persons not
selected will NOT receive any notification. U.S. embassies and
consulates will not be able to provide a list of successful applicants.
DV-2008 visas will typically be issued by September 2008.

Aik,
I really dont think its a game been played here but rather information
sharing, awareness and emphasis. I believe Wadosi are really getting
the word out to their communities and also helping their people with
the registration process which as a result out numbers the few of us.
Its all about Umoja!
Now as K-Forumers why don't we all make a commitment of passing the
word and emphasising our friends, relatives .........about this. Also
bare in mind with the new electronic process it could be challenging to
others due to technological limitations therefore they might need some
of your assistance.
Aik.....I will be checking the list next year to see if I can spot one
of your relatives or friend. _________________ KForum

what interests me more with the green card lotto is the number of winners, for example you will have 6,640 people from Nigeria, 3,546 from Kenya and 56 people from Tanzania while I feel like there are more Nigerians and Kenyans in the U.S. than Tanzanians . I thought more winnings are allocated to countries with less immigrants in the U.S... |

Good observation Mariam, I have also noticed that and wondered how pure the visa lottery is?
It seems TZ is always treated less favorable by the US on visa issues.
For example, the US embassy deals with people in TZ totally different from the way they threat people in Kenya or Uganda! They threat them way better.
Maybe the government needs to say or do something. _________________ "A brain is a terrible thing to waste." |

The system for the diversity visa lottery limit each country NOT to have more than 7% of the total slots (55,000). And the more people (from one country), the better they have a chance of winning (up to the 7% limit). Thus, like Nigerians participate in the right way ( ) more than Tanzanians, and thus winning in a larger number compared to us (or any other African country). |

Hi AJM,
I can buy your idea that wadosi help eath other on application process. And I agree with you that we need to step up on helping each other as well.
Personally, I try to help/remind my friends, family and other people that I know on the lotto. But so far, no winners from my side. So I guess, I might be doing either in the wrong way or just not lucky yet. |

A money making scheme targetted on the most Vulnerable

Ash, why do you keep quoting everything? I'm sorry but it just drives me CRAZY!
US immigration is a privilege and if they choose to award any country more visas then that is their choice. They could decide to stop the visa lottery tomorrow, then what?
But maybe my point of view is biased since I’m on the other side of the ocean. _________________ "A brain is a terrible thing to waste." |
